Mauritian children in «Artek»

On 17 September 2018, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Mauritius in collaboration with the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Mauritius organized a press conference following the trip of Mauritian group of pupils to the international center for children «Artek» 14 July – 3 August 2018 within the framework of a thematic educational program – International Festival «Earth is our home».

The Russian Ambassador, Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports of Mauritius, senior staff of the Ministry as well as representatives of the leading mass medias took part in the event.

In his address, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission described the history and the everyday life of the biggest center for children located in the Crimea on the coast of the Black Sea. He outlined the increasing number of young people arriving during last 3-4 years from abroad and made reference to the principal idea of «Artek» – giving education to the coming generation in the spirit of friendship between nations for the sake of keeping peace on Earth.

The Ambassador clarified to the journalists that the trip was granted free-of-charge as the Mauritian delegation won a selective competition.

Mrs. Olga Bogacheva, who had accompanied the delegation of Mauritian pupils, demonstrated a video presentation of their adventure. During the trip the Mauritian children took part in numerous cultural and sporting events, made friends with their peers from different countries with whom they now keep in touch. Besides, young Mauritians had the opportunity to practice Russian language, which they are learning in the Labourdonnais Lyceum. During their stay in the center children made a presentation of their homeland: told about culture, ordinary life on the island and prepared several dishes of traditional Mauritian cuisine.

In the course of the press conference, young members of the Mauritian delegation were able to share their bright emotions and impressions. Several children are sure that this trip will remain in memory for the rest of their lives. Besides, one participant expressed his willingness to get higher professional education in Russia.

Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports of Mauritius expressed satisfaction with the results of the unusual adventure to Russia, noted that the pupils have successfully performed the role of Ambassadors of their country abroad. He declared the readiness of Mauritian authorities to continue to render support for further development of cultural dialogue and humanitarian cooperation between the youth of Russia and Mauritius.
