On the consultations with the IOC delegation
On the 18 October 2018, consultations between the Russian interministerial delegation headed by the Director of the Department for New Challenges and Threats (DNCT) of the Russian Foreign Ministry I.Rogachev and the delegation of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) headed by its Secretary General Mr. Hamada Madi Bolero took place.
The parties have discussed matters of regional stability, counterterrorism, piracy, other challenges and threats in the Western Region of the Indian Ocean.
Special attention was attracted to the activities of the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia (CGPS) and the perspectives of its reforms in the context of creation of the global mechanism on the matters of maritime security under the aegis of the UN. Considering the existing contribution of the Mauritian party to the activity of the CGPS as well as the proximity of Russian and Mauritian positions in the subject, the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in Moscow Mr. J.Bissoondoyal also participated in the event.
The consultations were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
After the talks the IOC Secretary General Mr. Hamada Madi Bolero was received by the Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mr. M.Bogdanov. During the discussion an engaged exchange of views on the possible ways of cooperation between Russia and IOC’ member states in the trade, economic and investment fields as well as matters of coordination of mutual efforts to oppose new challenges and threats took place.
