On the «Immortal Regiment» march held in Mauritius

On May 12th, 2019 the «Immortal Regiment» march took place for the second year in a row in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Mauritius. The initiative proposed by the diplomatic mission and enthusiastically welcomed by Russian compatriots living in Mauritius received its further development.

The event started with a festive procession at the central square in the front of the Embassy accompanied by the soviet wartime music. About 70 people took part in the event. Among them, there were activists of the Coordinative Council of Russian Compatriots in Mauritius leaded by the Chairperson O.Bogacheva, staff of the Embassy and members of association of Mauritian Graduates of Soviet and Russian Universities. Many children were also participating.

In advance of the procession, the Russian Ambassador to Mauritius had a meeting with the heads of Mauritian veteran associations who also joined the «Immortal Regiment» this year. Matters of further cooperation in the military-patriotic field were discussed.

The evening continued in the Embassy club where members of compatriots’ association presented a literary and musical performance on the occasion of the Victory Day. During the concert pupils and teachers of the Russian educational center «Teremok» performed popular patriotic poetry and wartime songs. Touching memories of the war participants were read. Moreover, a video film specially prepared on this festive occasion dedicated to the relatives - veterans of The Great Patriotic War of Russian compatriots in Mauritius was demonstrated as well.

The evening concluded with a friendly cocktail where various dishes of traditional Russian cuisine were offered to the guests.

The event aroused great interest, there were no empty seats in the hall. After the concert guests wanted to stay longer. They shared their impressions of the Regiment and discussed the importance of the holiday in the context of preserving the historical memory for the new generations.
