On the 14 November 2018 a team of 9 kite surfers from Russia, Mauritius and Reunion (France) successfully accomplished an exclusive maritime crossing through the open waters of the Indian Ocean from Mauritius to Reunion which made them cover the distance of 203 km in nine and a half hours. The athletes constantly replaced each other in open waters, showed the highest degree of professionalism, bravery and successfully set a world record.
The project was initiated by Russian compatriots who established in 2015 the center for kite surfing "Watersport Club Le Morne Ltd." in Mauritius. It was held with the collaboration of the Russian Embassy in Mauritius, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius, with the support of the Financial Director of the Russian travel company "SODIS" Vladimir Popov and "Beachcomber" hotel chain.
Together with the brave athletes, Russian journalists took part in the project and later made publications about the kite relay and the beauty of the distant and exotic Mauritius.
The Russian Embassy in Mauritius congratulates all the participants of the transition! We are confident that this project will contribute to the further popularization of this tourist destination among Russians.
