On the meeting with Russian compatriots in Mauritius

On the 7th of March, 2020 an evening dedicated to the International Women’s day was organized in the club of the Embassy. Members of the community of Russian compatriots resident in Mauritius, members of the association of graduates from Soviet and Russian universities and Embassy staff attended the event.

In his speech, the representative of the Embassy elaborated on the plans for the following months. Among the most significant events, the organization of which urgently requires the active involvement of the activists from among Russian compatriots he emphasized the referendum on the amendments to the Constitution scheduled for 22 April 2020, as well as patriotic events dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Victory day, including the Immortal Regiment. Considerable interest can be aroused by two Russian sailing vessels Pallada and Sedov calling in Port Louis in early April during the round-the-world expedition devoted to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica under the command of Russian navigators Mikhail Lazarev and Faddey Bellingshausen.

Upon the completion of the protocol part, the Chairman of Coordinating Сouncil of the Organisation of Russian compatriots in Mauritius Olga Bogacheva was awarded by the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad a Certificate of Merit for great personal contribution to strengthening the positive image of Russia in the island and to promoting Russian language and culture in the Mauritius society.

Furthermore, teachers and pupils of the Russian educational center “Teremok” organized a concert dedicated to women. Performances of young and experienced artists were greeted by a storm of applause.
The second part of the evening was devoted to ahead celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. The spectators were presented with videos and materials on veterans of the Great Patriotic War, after which a homefront worker and the veteran of work Evgenia Pronina addressed the guests of the event. She shared stories from life in the war and postwar times and whished the audience a peaceful sky over their heads.

After the event, the guests were invited to participate in the international campaign “The Letter of Victory” and send their congratulations to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War in person.

The evening was interesting and eventfull and was held in a warm and friendly ambiance.
