On the participation of the Russian Embassy in the event on the occasion of the International Year of the Mendeleev Periodic Table

On 7 March 2019 a representative of the Russian Embassy in Mauritius took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition on the occasion of the International Year of the table of chemical elements, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of its discovery by the great Russian scientist Mr. Dmitry Mendeleev. It was organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre under the Ministry of Education, Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Mauritius.

The event was held with the participation of the Director of the Centre Mr.A.Maulloo, representatives of the Mauritius Research Council, Ambassador of India to Mauritius H.E. Mr.T.Lal, teachers of the University of Mauritius, local students and schoolchildren.

In his speech, the representative of the Embassy spoke about the life and work of the Russian scientist, about the numerous achievements in chemistry that allowed Mr.Mendeleev to create an integral system of elements in nature, mentioned his fundamental works in Biology, Physics, Economics, Meteorology, Agriculture and other areas.

Professor of the University of Mauritius Mrs.A.Bau-Luximon in her welcoming address presented a detailed presentation of the history of chemistry as a science in Mauritius. She emphasized the exceptional place of the periodic table in the history of human knowledge and the role of the Mendeleev's discovery in our time.

After the opening ceremony a scientific exhibition was launched, during which the wide Mauritian public had the opportunity to get acquainted with the elements of the periodic table and learn about their use nowadays.
