On the reception for members of the Association of graduates from Soviet and Russian universities “MAURUSS”

On the 15 November 2019 a reception for members of the Association of graduates of Soviet and Russian universities “MAURUSS” was held in the Russian Embassy in Mauritius organized in advance of the 60th anniversary of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN).

The event was attended by the Head of the Bilateral II Directorate of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius Mr.N.Udaiyan, the Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs of the University of Mauritius Mr.D.Jhurry, the “MAURUSS” President Dr.R.Radhay and members of the association as well as the President of the Coordinative Council of Russian Compatriots in Mauritius Mrs.O.Bogacheva.

The representative of the Embassy in his speech spoke about the importance of the Russia-Africa summit, which was recently held in Sochi. He noted that under the leadership of Dr.Radhay, the Association makes an important contribution to the strengthening of Russian-Mauritian relations in the humanitarian and cultural fields. Guests were informed on the exhibition in Mauritius, dedicated to the achievements of Soviet and Russian cosmonautics, timed to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Gagarin. The opening ceremony of the event will be held with the participation of Russian cosmonaut, hero of Russia Mr.Sergey Avdeev and is scheduled for 28 November 2019.

At the opening of the evening, the “MAURUSS” President Dr.Radhay addressed the public. He expressed gratitude to the Embassy for the implementation of joint projects and support for the initiatives of the Association. He confirmed the readiness of the organization to join the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the RUDN in February 2020. He stressed that in Mauritius, the RUDN is considered to be one of the most famous, demanded Russian educational institutions, which graduated more than 300 Mauritian citizens. In the ranks of MAURUSS, the event was attended by 6 graduates of RUDN, two of whom shared with the guests their student memories.

The Head of the Bilateral II Directorate of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius Mr.N.Udaiyan made a speech. He gave high value to the Russia-Africa summit organized in late October and shared his impressions of the trip to Sochi as part of the official Mauritian delegation. In addition, he recalled the years spent in Russia, as an employee of the Embassy of Mauritius.

The Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs of the University of Mauritius Mr.Jhurry, in turn, spoke about the agreement concluded this year with RUDN. He informed about the readiness of the University of Mauritius to cooperate with the Russian University in a number of areas. In this regard, it was announced that the University of Mauritius will soon send an invitation to the rector of RUDN Mr.Filippov to visit Mauritius to discuss possible ways of implementing the above-mentioned agreement.

At the end of the event, Mr.Ponambalam, a member of the “MAURUSS” Association, took the floor. He performed two Russian songs – “Katyusha” and “Evenings in the Moscow Woodlands” in Russian language. Russian compatriots gladly supported him and joined the singing.

After the official part of the reception a festive cocktail was offered to the guests.
