On the reception on the occasion of the Russian National Day

On June 12 in the «Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa» Hotel an official reception was held on the occasion of the National Day of the Russian Federation organized by the Russian Embassy to the Republic of Mauritius.

The Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius H.E. P.Vyapoory, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius the Honourable P.K.Jugnauth, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities the Honourable I.L.Collendavelloo, the Speaker of the National Assembly the Honourable Mrs. S.Hanoomanjee, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius, Minister of Public Infrastructure and Land Transport the Honourable N.Bodha, the Right Honourable Minister Mentor, Minister of Defence, Minister for Rodrigues Sir A.Jugnauth, the Minister of Tourism the Honouralbe A.Gayan and the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mrs. U.Dwarka Canabady were present at the event.

Moreover, heads and members of diplomatic missions, accredited to the Republic of Mauritius, activists of the coordinating council of Russian compatriots, resident in Mauritius, as well as the Mauritian graduates from Soviet and Russian universities and representatives of social, political and business sectors of the country also participated in the reception.

In his address, the Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius H.E. Mr.K.Klimovskiy outlined that the first Russia-Africa Summit will be held in October 2019 in Sochi and reminded of the key role of the USSR which it played in the 60-70s of the XX century in the liberation of Africa from colonial domination. Therefore, he said that it is very logic that on May 22 Russia fully supported the UN General Assembly resolution on the completion of the decolonization of Mauritius by the return of the illegally detained by the UK the Chagos Archipelago. He also expressed satisfaction with the high level of confidence in the historically friendly relations between Russia and Mauritius and described further steps aiming to develop the mutually beneficial cooperation in different fields. The Russian Ambassador told about the events organized in the first half of 2019 and gave details on the projects planned for the second half of the year, in particular, the opening of the “Russian corner” in the National Library of Mauritius and the organization of an art photo exhibition dedicated to the achievements of the Soviet and Russian cosmonautics. Moreover, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission announced that in the beginning of 2020 a Russian world-renowned sailboat “Sedov” will visit Port Louis on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by Russian navigator.

After the protocol part of the event the Russian Ambassador awarded the President of the Association of Mauritiun Graduates from Soviet and Russian Universities “MAURUSS” Mr. Ranjit Radhay with the Honorary sign “For Cooperation” for achievements in the development of bilateral relations in the humanitarian and cultural spheres, as well as for helping to strengthen the friendly ties between Russia and Mauritius.

Moreover, a photo exhibition dedicated to the 5th Anniversary of the Crimea’s return to Russia was presented by the Russian Ambassador to the high-level officials.

During the reception, which was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, several dishes of traditional Russian cuisine were proposed to the guests.

Journalists from the MBC and several Mauritian newspapers were present during the event.
