The second Russian-Mauritian Business Forum organized by the Economic Development Board of Mauritius in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius and the Embassy of Mauritius in Moscow was held in Port Louis from 19 to 21 November 2018.
From our side, the event was held with the participation of delegations of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Lipetsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of more than 20 companies as well as the Russian Embassy in Mauritius.
First such Forum was held in Moscow within the framework of the visit of the head of the Mauritian Foreign Ministry Hon. S.Lutchmeenaraidoo in November 2017 to meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S.Lavrov and marked the beginning of the intensification of the economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius Hon. I.Collendavelloo and the Chairman of the Mauritian Economic Development Board Mr. Charles Cartier opened the Ceremony. The greetings of the Russian Ambassador to Mauritius and the Mauritian Ambassador to Moscow were transmitted as well.
Chairman of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Platonov reported on the main activities of the organization as well as the information and communication technologies successfully implemented in its work that allow to organize the business space of Moscow on new modern principles. Bright and memorable presentation of the economic opportunities of the Lipetsk region was held by the Chairman of the Lipetsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anatoly Goltsov.
At the opening ceremony, Memorandums of Understanding and Cooperation were signed between Moscow and Lipetsk Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Economic Development Board of the Republic of Mauritius.
During the Forum, the Russian participants held a number of meetings with their potential Mauritian partners, visited the seaport, enterprises for the production of high-precision equipment, textile and clothing factories, travel companies and real estate.
In addition, the Russian delegation was received by the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius H.E. Mrs. U. Dwarka Canabady.
The parties exchanged views on the possibilities of cooperation in such areas as the processing of household waste, the creation of blockchain technologies, financial cooperation, tourism, direct air communication, the use of Mauritius as a regional financial, transport and logistics center for the promotion of Russian business interests in Africa, as well as the development of trade and economic relations between Port Louis and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Community.
On the 21st of November the Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius H.E. Mr. P.Vyapoory attended the final part of the Forum. Memorandums of Cooperation and Mutual understanding were signed between the Moscow and Lipetsk Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Mauritius.
The event was widely covered in the media, received high marks in the Mauritius official, socio-political and business circles, showed strong interest in establishing strong trade and economic relations with our country from the local authorities and the business community.
