The sail training vessel “Sedov” visited Mauritius

In the course of its circumnavigation of 2012-2013, dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the Russian statehood and the great Russian geographical discoveries, the sail training vessel “Sedov” visited Mauritius. After mooring the crew of the tall ship welcomed the Ambassador of Russia to Mauritius and diplomatic staff of the Embassy.

On 5 April 2013 under the auspices of the Embassy an onboard reception was held in the context of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mauritius. H.E. Mr. Rajkeswur Purryag, President of the Republic of Mauritius, was the chief guest at the reception. The barque “Sedov” was also visited by government officials, heads of diplomatic missions and offices of international organizations, accredited to Mauritius, public figures, as well as representatives of mass media, business circles and Russian-speaking diaspora.

With the participation of the Embassy on 6 and 7 April 2013 the ship was open to public visits during which the ship’s crew performed onboard excursions for the visitors. On the whole the Mauritians showed great interest in the Russian barque – the vessel was visited by more than two thousand people in total.

On 7 April 2013 a wreath-laying ceremony was held in Port Louis. The wreaths were laid to the Memorial to the seamen lost in sea by Ambassador of Russia to Mauritius H.E. Mr. Vyacheslav NIKIFOROV, Captain of STS “Sedov” Mr. Nikolay ZORCHENKO, diplomatic staff of the Embassy and the senior officers of “Sedov”.
