On the opening of the gallery of Soviet and Russian Ambassadors to the Republic of Mauritius

On 27 August 2018 the gallery of Soviet and Russian Ambassadors who worked at various times in Mauritius was officially launched in Russian Embassy’s reception hall.

It is based on materials received from the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of History and Records and was represented as an integrated part of a great photo exhibition dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries which we remarkably celebrated in the end of March 2018.

The Soviet Union was one of the first to recognize the young island state – the diplomatic relations were established just on the 5th day after Mauritius declared its independence.

H.E. Mr. Vasiliy ROSLAVTCEV was the first Soviet Ambassador to Mauritius from 1968 to 1973 and overall 11 diplomats headed the Embassy.
