On the reception held on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Association of Mauritian graduates from Soviet and Russian universities MAURUSS
On 9 November 2018 a reception was held on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Association of Mauritian graduates from Soviet and Russian Universities (MAURUSS) in the hall of the Embassy.
The event was held with the participation of the acting Head of the European Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius Mr. A.Koodoruth, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius Mr. D.Jhurry, responsible officers of several other ministries and representative of the Protocol Directorate of the Mauritian Foreign Ministry as well as the President of the Coordinative Council of Russian Compatriots in Mauritius Olga Bogacheva and MAURUSS activists. Many of them have made an important contribution to the development of the island’s national economy by working many years in various fields of economy.
The MAURUSS President Mr. R.Radhay opened the ceremony and described the activities of the organization outlining that it always supports the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of education, science, culture, tourism and promotes the positive image of Russia in Mauritius. Mr. Radhay presented the congratulatory letter from the Rector of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) Mr. V.Filipov which was published in the new edition of the MAURUSS magazine issued on this special occasion of the anniversary date.
The Russian Ambassador to Mauritius H.E. Mr. K.Klimovskiy expressed his gratitude to Mr. Radhay and to all MAURUSS members as well as to the Mauritian authorities for the rendered support and help in the realization of a number of cultural and humanitarian projects of the Embassy including events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Russia and Mauritius in March 2018.
Moreover, he told the participants about the Agreement on cooperation between the RUDN University and MAURUSS concluded this year during the visit to Mauritius of the RUDN Vice-Rector for International Affairs Mrs. L.Efremova and about the recent visit of Mr. Radhay to Moscow within the framework of the RUDN round table dedicated to the role of graduates in the scientific, educational and industrial partnership of Russia with foreign countries. In the conclusion, the Russian Ambassador highlighted the necessity of involving young graduates in MAURUSS aiming to ensure continuity in the strategic development of the Association and expressed wishes of success and fruitful work to its members.
The representatives of Mauritian ministries and graduates from Soviet Universities addressed the public as well. The former Minister of Education, Minister for Cooperatives and Fisheries Mr. D.Beharry took the floor. His intervention turned out very emotional. He spoke about his years of studies in the Soviet Union and even performed a humorous song in Russian language. The famous in Mauritius plastic surgeon, M.D., Ph.D. Mr. I.Chunnoo shared his memories on how he celebrated the Mauritian Independence in 1968 when he was in the USSR.
During the reception, the President of the Coordinative Council of Russian Compatriots in Mauritius Mrs. Olga Bogacheva presented an exhibition of paintings «What a big world: Africa and Middle East» drawn by Russian children from the Nizny Novgorod district within the framework of an International competition «My childhood dream» initiated by the Deputy of the Russian State Duma Mr.A.Kavinov. The exposition was earlier demonstrated in Morocco and Congo and after Mauritius will continue its journey through other African countries.
The reception was followed by a festive cocktail and degustation of the traditional Russian dishes.
The MBC crew was also invited to participate in the event.
