The Embassy of the Russian Federation informs with profound grief of the tragic death in terrorist attack of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov on December 19, 2016 in Ankara
The Embassy is deeply shocked by the assassination. The personnel of the Embassy will always remember him as an distinguished professional and genuine leader who brought together focus on results and an individual approach, which allowed to develop the potential of each employee. He was known for his peaceful and balanced character, caring attitude towards people and for protection of the interests of Russian citizens. He was a friendly and positive person.
We extend our condolences and mourn together with his family and friends. His death has become a grievous loss.
A Condolence Book will be opened at the Russian Embassy (Queen Mary Avenue, Floreal) on the following dates:
- Wednesday, December 21, from 15:00 to 17:00;
- Thursday, December 22, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00.

Andrey G. KARLOV was born in Moscow in 1954.
In 1976 graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, in 1992 graduated from Diplomatic Academy.
Started his diplomatic career in 1976.Worked on different positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and Russia, as well as foreign missions.
1979 – 1984 and 1986 – 1991 – Embassy of the USSR to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
1992 – 1997 – Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea
2001 - 2006 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
2007 - 2013 – Deputy Director General, Director General for Consular Affairs.
Since July 2013 – Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey.
